About Deborah
I’m an experienced English teacher, writer, novelist and AQA examiner with a genuine passion for helping students discover their confidence and ability in English. I have taught students across a wide range of ages and abilities, from those who need extra support to students aiming for the highest GCSE grades.
I love English because it gives us the tools to understand the world, express ourselves and tell our own stories. Whether a student is struggling with grammar, finding Shakespeare daunting, preparing for GCSE English Literature and Language, or simply wants to become a more confident writer, I want to make learning feel achievable and enjoyable.
As an examiner, I also understand exactly what exam boards are looking for and how students can turn their ideas into clear, sophisticated answers. As a novelist and creative writer, I can bring literature and writing to life beyond simply teaching to a mark scheme.
Most importantly, I believe every student can improve. My aim is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their own voice. I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived.
