About Sophie
I have been teaching since 2011 and was inspired to become fluent in French by the possibilities I could see opening up in my life. After my first students exchange at 16 I was hooked. I am a qualified high school trained French teacher with a Bachelor of Arts (French) and a Diploma of Education. I have trained in France, Reunion Island and Australia, and worked the past few years as a French Teacher in Canada. I am also a workshop facilitator and a French Education Consultant.

My methodology is a gesture-based way of learning French. It mimicks what it is like to be in an immersive environment and doesn't rely on the constant back-and-forth of translation to create fluency (or not...). Gestures are an amazing bridge between not understanding and understanding. They trigger memory, they are a prompt, they allow for gentle error correction and they are fun! My lessons are immersive and communication focused. I don't encourage perfection, I encourage bravery and conversation. This method really works for people wanting to go from zero to one hundred with their speaking skills. I can tailor lessons to suit your needs and interests too.
