About Catherine
Throughout my career at Houston Community College and the University of Houston-Downtown, I have had the privilege of teaching one of the most diverse student populations in the nation. Many of my students were English language learners, first-generation college students, international students, and adult learners returning to education after years in the workforce. This experience has helped me develop effective strategies for supporting students with varying levels of English proficiency, academic preparation, and cultural backgrounds. I understand the challenges that English language learners face and provide patient, individualized instruction that builds confidence, strengthens communication skills, and promotes academic success. My goal is to create a welcoming learning environment where every student feels respected, supported, and capable of achieving their educational goals.

With more than 50 years of experience teaching English, Reading, Writing, Special Education, and adult learners, I adapt my methods to different learning styles and academic levels. I specialize in helping students improve reading comprehension, writing skills, study habits, test preparation, and U.S. citizenship exam readiness. My lessons are ideal for middle school, high school, college, adult education, ESL learners, and individuals preparing for citizenship or academic success.
