About Shirley
Hello! My name is Shirley, and I am a passionate and dedicated education student who enjoys helping learners develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence.
I believe that learning should be a positive and enjoyable experience. My teaching approach is patient, supportive, and learner-centred, with lessons adapted to suit each learner’s individual needs and learning pace. I enjoy using interactive activities, practical examples, visual resources, and clear explanations to make difficult concepts easier to understand.
I have experience working with primary school learners, particularly Foundation Phase learners, and have developed lesson plans and learning activities across subjects including Mathematics, English, and Life Skills. I am also proficient in both English and isiXhosa and can use these languages to support learners during lessons.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have coached netball to children between the ages of 8 and 12. This experience has strengthened my ability to work with children, encourage teamwork, build confidence, and create a positive environment where learners feel motivated to participate and improve.
Whether a learner needs additional support with schoolwork, wants to strengthen their understanding of a subject, or simply needs a patient and encouraging person to guide them, I aim to create a comfortable environment where they feel confident to ask questions and learn from their mistakes.
I look forward to helping each learner reach their potential and making every lesson a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience!

I believe that every learner has their own strengths, learning style, and pace, so I use a patient, supportive, and learner-centred approach to tutoring. My lessons are interactive and engaging, with a focus on helping learners understand concepts rather than simply memorising information. I use practical examples, visual resources, activities, questions, and discussions to make lessons enjoyable and easier to understand.
I offer tutoring for primary school learners, particularly Foundation Phase learners, in subjects such as Mathematics, English, and Life Skills. My lessons can be adapted to support learners who need extra help, learners who want to strengthen their understanding, or learners who would like to work ahead of their grade level.
I am proficient in English and isiXhosa and can use either language to support learners where appropriate. During a typical lesson, we begin by identifying what the learner already understands and what they find challenging. We then work through the topic step-by-step using age-appropriate activities and explanations. I encourage learners to ask questions, participate actively, and build confidence in their own abilities.
My goal is to create a comfortable learning environment where learners feel supported, motivated, and confident to make mistakes and learn from them. I aim to make each lesson meaningful, interactive, and suited to the individual learner's needs.
