About Amy
As a curious and creative human, I came to the teaching profession with a wide range of life experiences and with intention. Prior to my teaching career, I was a self-employed photographer with experience in travel, portraiture, fine art, landscape, and architectural photography. I have been published in Best Home magazine and several travel magazines. My Instagram handle is @cheekemonkeys_eye and website is amyjowest.com.
I am friendly, honest, organized and efficient but above all, I treat people the same way I would like to be treated; with compassion and respect. I have a great appreciation for music, am passionate about self-expression through creativity, and I love to explore and photograph the nooks and crannies of the world. I also enjoy reading and films, riding my bike, learning to play my acoustic guitar, and cooking and eating delicious food
Teaching and learning are not what I do rather how I choose to evolve, and how I choose to meaningfully contribute to a world
outside of myself. I am excited at the opportunity to facilitate a student-centered learning approach for students of all ages and levels!

Learning is an individual process and as such, my teaching approach starts with relationship building. I really need to get to know each student in order to understand their learning needs, styles, and propensities: what their likes, dislikes, challenges and goals, short-term and long term.
By understanding them as an individual, I can adapt my praxis and meet them where they are at while offering opportunities to engage with learning to develop foundational skills authentically.
Learning projects, activities, and assessments are incremental and centered around cultivating creativity. Students can present their learning in whatever form they choose as long as they meet the learning goals and criteria that emphasize the skills and concepts being explored.
Some examples of skills and concepts: composition - the principles of design & the rule of thirds, post-production editing- color theory and color correction.
