Teaching Mandarin as a second language to Grade 1- Grade 4 and Heritage Chinese
to Grade 5 – Grade 8 students.
For Mandarin as Foreign Language learners, textbooks and workbooks are essential,
family words, grammar are the main teaching way to help students to memorize all the
information systemically to enhance their cognition in Chinese. To encourage students
to speak more Mandarin, there are life conversation and culture in my curriculum as well,
they will be using Mandarin while living in the traditional culture in Taiwan. The extra
teaching tools are websites, pictures, articles, current affairs/news, games or other
related applications for the lesson.
For Heritage learners, textbook and exercise are essential, listening, speaking, reading
and writing are focused. I tend to improve their Chinese literacy and focus on improving
their Chinese in all aspects.
Different ways to manage classes, have good learning results with different teaching
strategies and assessments, students enjoy learning.
Chinese culture related events and the Culture Awareness:
Year 2013-2014 Hakka Handicraft and Food Fair 2013: Invited Hakka Culture and
Taiwan Indigenous Culture to our students.
Year 2014-2015 Chinese Culture and Traditional Arts Field Trip: Visit National Center
for Traditional Arts for Lower and Middle schools.
Year 2015-2018 Chinese holiday activities: Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year
and Lantern Festival Lantern and cultural handicrafts for Lower and Middle schools.
Year 2017-2018 ELL and CSL Language Learner’s Festival for Grade 2, 3 and 4 class.
