About Sam
Hello! I’m Sam, an experienced Architectural Designer and the owner of Modal Architecture, where we specialise in crafting high-performance, sustainable lifestyle homes across New Zealand.
My journey in architecture has been fuelled by a passion for design that not only meets aesthetic and functional standards but also prioritises low energy use and comfort. Over the years, I’ve trained and mentored numerous staff, developed structured upskilling tools, and now led my team at Modal Architecture. This rich experience has motivated me to teach aspiring architects and interior designers, guiding them through the complexities of the field while helping them build the confidence necessary to succeed.
In my tutoring sessions, I strive to create a supportive yet challenging environment where you will receive constructive, hands-on feedback. I aim to help you grasp the principles of architecture and design and apply them effectively in real-world situations. Whether you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student, my sessions will encourage critical thinking, refine your skills, and elevate your design standards.

With over a decade of professional experience in architecture and design, including training and upskilling staff before founding my practice. I offer personalised tutoring for university students and professionals at any level, from Bachelor's to Master's in Architecture and Interior Design.
My tutoring approach is hands-on and tailored to push you towards achieving exceptional design outcomes. Each one-hour session combines constructive feedback with active design challenges, encouraging you to think critically and elevate your work. Together, we’ll explore design concepts, refine techniques, and consider fresh perspectives to maximise your potential.
I bring both a Diploma and a Bachelor’s in Architecture, along with LBP Design AoP3 certification, giving you industry-relevant insights and real-world lessons. Lessons are available online across New Zealand or in-person in Auckland. This tutoring is aimed at students who want to further their careers with a better understanding of their projects and how this applies outside of University. For all University aged students.
