About Joe
I first got involved in youth work as a young person myself. Whilst in secondary school, friends and I started a local youth centre and directed a short video which was used to encourage sponsorship for community projects.
Around this time I was playing football for the local team and became assistant coach of the under 7's team for a couple of seasons. This was my first real experience working with younger children and showed me just how essential enthusiasm is!
After leaving sixth form, I volunteered with International Citizen Service(ICS) and spent three months in Botswana. There I worked alongside in-country NGO’s with a focus on improving the living standards of schoolchildren and raising awareness of critical social issues such as HIV/AIDS. I also gained a lot of friends and family that I still keep in touch with.
More recently I have been teaching English at St Marylebone Bridge School. The schools specialises in helping students with speech and language needs.
I have experience working with young people from a variety of backgrounds and always ensure I tailor my support to meet the individual young persons needs. I have a relaxed, friendly approach and love what I do!

My teaching method is built upon having a calm atmosphere to maximise engagement. By actively listening to students, I can identify where they are struggling and help accordingly. Students tend to know themselves where they need help! I believe that practice makes perfect and nothing can replace getting stuck into the work. However, taking the time to create a good relationship with students is key to teaching and lets learning be fun as well.
