About Simon
I have been teaching for 10 years and, as well as achieving a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and Qualified Teacher Status, I was awarded a 1st Class Honours degree in English and History. I also won an academic prize for my third year dissertation. I have worked in comprehensive schools where I was adjudged to be an excellent practitioner (evidence is available upon request. I have also worked with home-schooled children, one of whom achieved a 1st in their degree and whose graduation I recently attended. I tutor because, simply, I love it and, especially, relish the chance to see a student excel and gain in confidence as a result. I have been married for 29 years and have four children. Prior to qualifying as a teacher I enjoyed careers in business and journalism.

I will work hard to understand exactly the level at which the student is currently working and set work accordingly. Success breeds confidence for a student so short, sharp consolidation tests are a feature of my teaching. I am also a believer in practise making perfect and a mastery of the basics: assumptions are frequently made about student's capabilities regarding spelling, grammar and punctuation. These, also, will be worked on and reinforced to improve fluency and confidence with the English language. I also believe in empowering students to achieve success for themselves, not just in English, but in all subjects. I believe success can be taught.

In order to help parents reduce costs, I have a special rate for more than one student at a time, enabling parents to band together and make private tuition more affordable:
For a group of two students: £22.50 per student
three students: £20 per student
four students: £17.50 per student
five students: £15 per student
Conditions do apply to this offer:
1. All students must be studying the same qualification (ie all CGSE or all A-level)
2. Service users agree to increase their rate according to the table above, if someone drops out.
3. Two weeks non-attendance will be deemed as 'dropping out', unless previously discussed.
