About Damien
I started tutoring in April 2019, having previously undertaken numerous teaching roles and posts in the Higher Education sector. For instance, during my PhD (2003-2007), two Post-Doctoral positions (2007-2008), Teaching Fellowship (2008-2009), Research Fellowship (2009-2004), and Lectureship (2014-2019) I have taught small (approx. 6) upto large (150+) groups at undergraduate and postgraduate level at a number of universities in the UK (i.e. Bristol, St Andrews, and Dundee) and Europe (i.e. Ghent).
I have also supervised undergraduate, masters, and doctoral projects to successful completion, and have assessed 200+ undergraduate dissertations and assignments, 100+ Masters dissertations and assignments, and the work (at various stages) of 10+ PhD and MD researchers. I also serve as peer-reviewer for 10+ academic journals. In my own writing I have published 10+ peer-reviewed academic papers, 5+ book chapters, and mulitple opinion pieces for academic and professional audiences (as well as multiple assignments and theses in my own educational journey!). I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of the writing process, and take great pride in producing written work that is accessible to the widest possible readership. in this regard I pay consideable attention to content and strcuture, and am a stickler for grammar, spelling and punctuation.
I have taught, supervised, and assessed on programmes that cover psychology (including postgraduate health psychology), public health, global health, behavioural science, medical ethics, and research methods and analysis (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods).
Finally, I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

My approach to education adopts a “pedagogy of collegiality” which aims to overcome the traditional teacher-learner relationship, thereby empowering the learner to shape the teaching session to best suit their learning preference. Consequently, while I enter a teaching session with a plan, I am willing to be flexible in its implementation, in order to suit the needs of the learner.
During the free first class we will discuss and develop a plan for future classes to include likely topics and learning preferences.
The session(s) will focus on developing an inital plan or refine an existing plan for an essay/dissertation/thesis, including the adoption of a critical lens on the material, and a logical, flowing struture and organisation of the material. I will also be able to proof-read drafts and further advise on grammar, spelling, and punctuation
