About Evie
I am a friendly, approachable and dedicated tutor who is passionate about helping students feel more confident in their abilities. Having recently been through the examination system myself, I have a strong understanding of the expectations of GCSE exams and the challenges students can face when preparing for them.
Although I do not hold a formal teaching qualification, I have developed strong tutoring skills through my experience working with students and my own academic experience. I focus on making lessons engaging, supportive and tailored to each student's individual needs, while ensuring that they develop the knowledge and exam techniques needed to make real progress.
I believe that building a good relationship with students is just as important as teaching the content. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their ideas without feeling judged. My aim is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to leave them feeling more confident and capable in the subject.

My lessons are primarily online via Teams or Zoom working with GCSE level students in years 10 and 11. My approach to tutoring is centred around building confidence, developing strong subject knowledge, and helping each student understand how to approach a question rather than simply giving them the answers. I tailor lessons to the individual student, taking into account their current ability, learning style, areas of difficulty, and academic goals.
I use a combination of clear explanation, guided questioning, worked examples, discussion, and exam-style practice. For English Literature, I focus particularly on developing students’ ability to analyse language, structure and literary techniques, while also helping them understand the wider themes, characters and context of a text. I encourage students to think independently and explain their interpretations, gradually moving them towards producing more sophisticated and confident written responses.
I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique. Students learn how to plan answers, select effective quotations, analyse evidence in detail, and respond directly to the question. I use regular retrieval and recap activities to help students retain key knowledge and become more confident applying it under exam conditions.
My typical lessons are 60 minutes, although I can adapt lesson length depending on the student's age, level, concentration, and individual needs. For exam preparation, longer sessions can also be particularly useful for combining teaching with timed exam practice and detailed feedback.
I have been a tutor for two years after achieving an A* in my A-level English exam and I am currently in my final year of study at the University of Manchester studying Liberal Arts with a focus on English. Despite not having professional teaching qualifications, I am confident in my ability to explain difficult concepts clearly, adapt my approach to different students, and create lessons that are both engaging and purposeful. I believe one of my strengths as a tutor is being able to build a good rapport with students. I aim to make lessons feel approachable and supportive while still maintaining a clear academic focus. I have also not been long out of the examination system myself, which means I have a recent and practical understanding of what students are expected to know, how exams are structured, and what makes an effective exam answer. I understand the pressures students can feel around exams and aim to make the process feel much more manageable and approachable.
