About Ethan
Hi, I’m Ethan! Teaching and mentoring kids is my passion, and I’m excited about helping students sharpen their academic skills and access new fields of knowledge. I’m a recent graduate of Dartmouth College and new upper elementary teacher with a love of history and language. Beyond that, I’m a committed mentor and believe that the tutoring process is a fantastic way for students to gain enthusiasm for exploring the world around them.
I also have 2 years of full-time work experience as a K-8 private school office manager and long-term substitute teacher. My wife and I are both from the the greater Birmingham, AL, area.

My academic specializations are in Latin and English reading/writing skills. However, I have also offered instruction in history/social studies, elementary science and math, and general study skills. My philosophy is that the tutoring process should be a creative one in which students are encouraged to build academic confidence through trial-and-error and the regular practice of skills.
I have experience working with students from grades K-12 in both one-on-one and group settings. My experience in the classroom has led me to believe that students engage best when education is a dynamic and reciprocal endeavor. Further, I feel that a keen focus on strengthening intellectual skills (e.g., reading comprehension, clarity of expression) should undergird all content-focused tutoring efforts.
