About Maureen
I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant in Maths at a secondary school in Gloucester. I gained a PGCE Secondary Maths & QTS in 2020 and I have a degree in Mathematics. Prior to taking the PGCE, I worked as a lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire teaching across the subjects of Maths, Statistics and Computing. Over that time I also worked as a part-time tutor for the Open University and did a little private tutoring too. An example of improvement my students make is lifting a predicted A level grade from D to B, after some sessions coaching statistics.

Hi, I work in an 11-16 secondary school, specialising in assisting Maths class teachers and delivering 1-1 and small-group lessons to students who need extra help. This allows me to see different approaches and methods and puts me in a perfect position to help you with your Maths at this level.
At the start of a new topic I would aim to do a skills check with you, to find out whether you have the skills and knowledge that are assumed for the topic. If not, then we will do some practice or I will re-teach stuff to you before getting stuck into the new topic.
If continuing with a topic, then we’d start with a quick recap. On the new stuff, I would start by going through some examples and develop the steps needed to solve the problems. Next we would do some together. Then, I’d ask you to go-it-alone but still give you hints or prompts if you need them. When you manage to complete questions confidently on your own, we can move onto more challenging questions and/or exam questions. Don’t worry it’s more than likely to take a number of lessons to get to the exam questions stage and we won’t move on until you’re ready.
