About Nancy
Hello! My name is Nancy Hughes and I am a 22 year old third year student at Durham University studying Economics. Having achieved 3A*s and 1A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry (respectively) at A level and 9A*s and 1A at GCSE, I feel I am in a good position to help any student to improve in these fields of study.
I have played sport all my life and have a true passion for it - playing team sport for so many years has helped develop my communication skills and teamwork and I think I can effectively transfer these skills into my tutoring. Also, having been Head Girl at my secondary school, I feel very confident in building relationships with adults and those younger than me and would love to transfer this into tutoring as well. I have tutored multiple A level and GCSE students before and the sessions proved very successful.
Furthermore, in 2019 I was successful in my application to study Chemistry at Oxford University hence have experience with Oxbridge preparation and the application process so could also give any tips, tricks and advice that helped me during this process.
I am friendly, bubbly, enthusiastic, hardworking and dedicated to helping others and would absolutely love the chance to work with you to help you improve your studies.

A session should always begin by revisiting and consolidating content covered in the previous session hence I will always start with a brief 5-10 minute recap before moving onto something new. A loose structure to an hour long session would be, 5-10 minute recap of previous session followed by 35 minutes covering/revising the new topic and then would spend the final 15 minutes putting the discussion into practice by going over the content and maybe doing some practice questions to consolidate the knowledge. I will always ensure I have discussed with the student in advance, what they would like to study and prepare accordingly as I believe communication is essential. This may be by finding worksheets/practice questions and going over the content myself to ensure I fully understand their difficulties. I would have resources available and fresh knowledge on this topic so as to help the student most effectively.
Depending on how long it takes to go over each topic, I would usually make up a short summary test for each topic to help measure progress as well as asking them to occasionally complete some homework too.
I have tutored Maths, Physics and Chemistry at GCSE and A Level online since late 2019 and have seen excellent results from all my students. I have great resources and teaching techniques and thoroughly enjoy helping my students every week.
Ultimately, I will do my utmost to prepare well and teach as well as possible while making each session enjoyable and forming a good relationship with the client as nothing will encourage learning better than joy and enthusiasm.
