About Izzy
150+ hours tutoring experience, including Maths 11+, GCSE and A level.
I'm currently studying an Applied Mathematics MSc at Imperial College London, after graduating with a 1st Class degree in Maths and Philosophy from Durham last year. I studied Maths, Further Maths, Philosophy and Geography at A level achieving A*A*AA in 2015.
I've always loved the puzzle and logic of maths since I was at primary school, especially the challenge of solving hard problems. I spent a lot of time helping my friends and explaining questions at school, which actually really helped me to learn myself. I've recently helped tutor my sister through her Maths A level (2018), and completed a lot of online tutoring during my undergraduate degree, so I think I’m in a really good position to help others too. In particular, I tutored a home-schooled pupil for the last year, who I was delighted to hear achieved an A* and took her GCSE early.
Taking exams puts a lot of pressure on your knowledge of a subject, and I think its really important to be as prepared as possible. When tutoring, I hope to focus on areas of difficulty to help refine techniques which can be applied to further questions.

I have known Izzy Ashman since she was 3 years old, when I taught her at nursery school. I’ve remained friends with Izzy and her family since, and can recommend her for the position of maths tutor without hesitation. She is hard working, diligent, honest, kind, and great fun. She has helped entertain my string of foster children over the years without complaint, which takes some doing. You will be lucky to have her!
Izzy is a highly intelligent and hard-working woman who settled quickly to a new, more academic environment, gaining the respect of peers and staff alike. It came as no surprise when she was elected as a Prefect and went on to become Deputy Head of School. She joined Magdalen College School for Sixth Form from St Helen and St Katharine's School with an excellent set of GCSE results (11A* and 1A in Additional Maths). Academically first rate, she gained A* grades in Maths and Further Maths and A grades in Geography and Philosophy. Izzy is also an accomplished musician and was a member of the school's First Orchestra and Jazz Band. She is a keen sportswoman, and represented the school at netball and hockey. She was a strong and very funny ensemble player in a series of Chekhov farces that played at the Edinburgh Festival. For her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, she set up from scratch a Junior Geography Club, the success of which was due to her commitment and enthusiasm. Izzy has a mature rapport with others; she worked with children from local primary schools and she has the knack of getting the best out of young people. She brings a formidable self-motivation to her work. She is an able, trustworthy and very likeable individual who will be a dedicated and thorough tutor. I recommend her warmly and without hesitation.
