I’m Jo, an MFA-trained writer and experienced English tutor with a passion for helping students strengthen their writing and find their authentic voice. I’ve spent years working with words professionally—developing campaigns for global brands and mentoring students in storytelling, essay writing, and literary analysis. As a tutor, I bring that same mix of creativity and structure to every session. As a tutor, I focus on helping students strengthen both clarity and confidence in their writing. My lessons begin with understanding the student’s goals—whether it’s mastering literary analysis, refining essay structure, or developing a standout college application essay. From there, we work through outlines, drafts, and revisions, focusing on voice, logic, and flow.
I believe writing improves through conversation and curiosity, so I ask thoughtful questions to help students uncover their ideas rather than simply correct them. Each session blends practical guidance with creative encouragement, ensuring students leave not just with a stronger paper, but with a better grasp of how to express themselves on the page.
My background as an MFA graduate and professional writer allows me to bring real-world writing experience into an academic setting, helping students connect the technical with the expressive. My lessons are ideal for high school and college students who want to write with clarity, purpose, and authenticity.
