About Kate
I am originally from Nashville, TN, but I have been teaching English Language Arts and Literature to students who speak English as a second language for the past 10 years in Istanbul, Turkey. I offer support to students in academic writing, high school or middle school literature (including advanced literature), IGCSE First Language English, IGCSE ESL, IELTS, TOEFL, and general English writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills. I have taught grades 5-10, but these days, I primarily work with high school students.

I approach every student as an individual, assessing needs, interests, and goals in the first lesson before anything else. I then construct a plan of study that focuses on the specific needs of the student.
I mostly work with high school students whose native language is not English. My students usually need to improve their general level of English as well as pass proficiency exams, improve their writing skills, and perform competitively in an English-speaking academic environment.
As the pandemic has rendered online teaching necessary, I make use of as much technology as possible in order to keep my lessons as engaging as possible. Games, activities, and collaborative programs really spice up lessons!
