About Cora

Having completed schooling in Rathmore Grammar school, as well as receiving an honours degree in English Literature and Language, with a master’s degree in Linguistics beginning in September, I believe I have a firm and extensive grasp on language. Moreover, my focus on writing, analyzing and communicating throughout my education has created a distinguished ability in that area, as well as many relevant subjects. For example, literature analysis and creation, data analysis and collection, and English Literature and Language teaching.

This academic focus shows how hardworking and enthusiastic I am, and highlights diligent work ethic and determination. As a tutor, my unique perspective offers any individual the chance to receive a rounded, and full tuition. Specifically, I am very well versed in disorders such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, as well as coping and adapting methods for individuals which have such disorders. Moreover, the degree to which I have studied, and am currently progressing to, is highly conducive to tutoring, lecturing, and teaching. I have studying how to teach, the language behind teaching and acquisition, the pillars of our very language, and implemented this knowledge with helping younger students with essays and assessments.

The organisational skills developed throughout an extensive and fast-paced degree would allow me to bring many positive qualities to any pupil, such as time management within exams and essays, study skills, and developing assessments. Furthermore, due to years as a performance artist I have established excellent communication skills and ‘people skills’ which allow me to interact with individuals well; maintaining an open and comfortable atmosphere which is perfect for learning.
In conclusion, I am a hard-working, reliable and passionate individual who is focused on academic pursuits in English Literature and Linguistics, and I believe that this enables me to be a fabulous tutor for any individual up to PhD level within English Literature and Language, and also Linguistics. Having previous teaching experience I am very comfortable, and familiar with various examination boards and marking requirements. Therefore, as a tutor, I can offer an excellent learning experience as I understand both the perspective of the pupil, and the assessor. I am willing to work within the Deeside, Hawarden, Chester area. I hope to hear from you soon!

Work Experience- Teacher
Working with 6 to 11 year old children to advance their learning experience, as well as developing my teaching techniques and abilities, one had to learn to ingratiate themselves within a team and work to the best of their capabilities. Furthermore, working within a school environment allowed me to understand how text should be laid out and constructed in order to ensure optimal learning experience and understanding.

2013 Stirling University
Teaching
As part of my education of teaching, we were required to teach secondary school children. My classes focused on English Literature and Language and we covered a multiple range of subjects within that branch of learning, for example, metaphors, sentence structure, and text analysis to name a few. I was in charge of writing my lessons and presenting all work, powerpoints, discussions, and activities. This allowed me to develop a greater knowledge of classroom structure, teaching techniques and knowledge impartion.

My teaching practice consists of detailed lesson plans which can be easily used as revision notes, personalised plans and structured around the pupil. I prefer a give and take relationship between myself and the individual, for example, their input on my current teaching method and whether they feel they are benefiting from it. If they do, then we keep it, if not, then I can mix it up and rework it for their specific needs!

I have taught a classroom of 30 primary school children, and 25-30 secondary school children, as well as tutored undergraduate students. All of these students have taken my study skill methods, knowledge learned and coping mechanisms onto their relevant assessments. For example, undergraduate assessments equating to their final degree, GCSE examinations and Secondary School placement examinations.

I love teaching, and I love the give and take relationship between tutor and pupil. My joy of teaching comes from the interactive and less strict method of teaching, and also creating a comfortable environment and rapport with the individual who wants to learn.

I hope to hear from you soon!

All the best!
Cora
