About Tom
Perhaps the most important reason I teach is because I enjoy talking to people and finding out who they are. We all have a great deal to learn from one another, and I believe the best way to do this is to become a keen conversationalist.
In my experience, many young people find it difficult to communicate who they are and what they want. I've found that through improving their literature and language skills, my students have grown in confidence and self-knowledge.
My undergraduate degree gave me wide-ranging literary and historical acuity, though I believe I have learned more from my professional life as a writer & editor, and as such I have acquired both an academic and a real-life understanding of my subjects.
So if you're looking for someone who is both passionate and articulate to bring your lessons to life, you've found the right person for the job.

I’m a 29-year-old English Literature graduate (Oxford) who works both as a private tutor and a script editor for Marvel Studios. I'm able to teach English (Lit & Lang), History & Arts/Humanities up to university level, and can teach Science up to GCSE level.
I’d describe my teaching style as fun & engaging, with each lesson tailored to the specific needs of my students. My main focus is on improving clarity of communication and making sure my students' ideas are heard. I specialise in long & short-form narrative storytelling, essay-writing/proofing, and critical approaches to texts throughout history. My lessons are between 1 and 2 hours in length, and may require some preparatory reading in order to get the most out of them. Perfect for anyone who is studying English / History / Arts & Humanities, or wants to improve the quality of their writing & reading.
My working hours are flexible and I am able to work remotely or in-person. London-based.
