About Carissa
I am a mom to a sweet boy and wife to a loving husband. I live in Minnesota and enjoy the simple things in life like crafts, hands-on learning, and good cups of coffee. More than once I have heard students say that English is a class they look forward to because of my teaching and that they enjoy how personable I am. I understand that life is hard sometimes and learning might need to take a pause to work through something, but the end goal is to make you better (and smarter) than before. I promise to keep your learning and development my focus if we get the chance to work together.

I have 6 years of teaching experience and have worked with students of all levels. I have taught many different classes including, but not limited to: English 9-12, Contemporary Lit, Creative Writing, Mythology, and Film classes. My favorite things to teach are grammar and essay writing, though I enjoy other things as well. I am an avid reader and learner, but I know that English is not for everyone and many people need help -- which is what I am here for! I am a real human and mom, so I have realistic expectations of what can and cannot be done. I like to jump right in with work and take brain breaks when I can see a student getting frustrated (which is 100% okay). My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know students and watching them learn. The relationship with the student is what sets those building blocks for success!
