Welcome! I am a graduate of the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, where I earned both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in opera. My Teaching Method and Techniques: As a tutor, I bring a unique blend of vocal mastery and communication skills honed through my background in opera and rigorous training at the Curtis Institute of Music.
My method is rooted in personalized learning: I assess each student’s strengths, areas for improvement, and goals to create a tailored plan.
My approach includes:
- Voice and Articulation Techniques: Drawing from my experience in opera, I teach effective voice projection, articulation, and breath control to enhance clarity and confidence in speaking.
- Active Listening and Engagement: By emphasizing attentive listening and active engagement, I help students improve their conversational skills, comprehension, and responsiveness in real-time discussions.
- Interactive Practice: Lessons include practical exercises such as role-playing, structured speech exercises, and dynamic feedback to make learning engaging and effective.
A typical session includes three core components to provide structure and ensure progress:
- Warm-Up and Recap (5-10 minutes): We’ll begin with a quick review of previous material and vocal warm-up exercises to prepare for the lesson.
- Core Lesson (30-40 minutes): This portion includes targeted learning on specific skills, like pronunciation, public speaking techniques, or grammar. I incorporate real-life scenarios to make the learning applicable.
- Practice and Feedback (10-15 minutes): To close, students practice speaking through structured exercises, and I provide personalized feedback to reinforce learning and suggest improvements.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor: My background as an opera singer and Curtis Institute graduate sets me apart, allowing me to approach English and public speaking from the perspective of a performer and communicator. I understand the technical nuances of voice control, clarity, and the confidence needed to captivate an audience.
