About Rachel
I am a qualified educator and coach with 10+ years experience delivering quality training for corporations and not-for-profit, 7 years school teaching experience in Australia, Costa Rica and India, 20+ years live events, theatre directing and producing experience, and 5 years Cross Training coaching.
I love working with young people. The upper primary, middle and high school years are the time in a young person’s life where they have the opportunity to explore their passions, creativity and inquisitiveness. It is a joy to guide them in harnessing their energy and strengths during this critical time in their education, whilst encouraging them to explore all areas of interest so they can thrive and believe in themselves.
The landscape for teaching and learning has changed irrevocably with COVID-19. It is my role as a teacher to continually adapt my teaching methods to meet the learning and pastoral needs of my students regardless of the teaching location or platform, and assist them in navigating their learning in new and sometimes challenging ways. I am a passionate technologist and love exploring new platforms and applications, and see the brave new world we have entered as an opportunity for schools to innovate and connect teachers, students and entire school communities in new and exciting ways.
Through teaching I endeavour to foster a lifelong love of learning with all my students and I am dedicated to understanding and catering for individual differences with all my students. All young people have intrinsic worth as valuable human beings, and they have the right to learn. My international teaching experience in an international school in Mumbai, India, and a bi-lingual school in Costa Rica, along with my experience working with young people from all around the world at the International Award for Young People, has given me first-hand experience and understanding about students from all over the world, including third culture kids. I have insight and experience in designing curriculums that meet the needs of a vastly varied student body.
All young people are capable of personal excellence, and as a teacher I expect my students to strive for their personal best. My role is to facilitate their learning through a mix of individual learning, cooperative strategies, and at times a teacher directed approach. Their learning should be centred on clear outcomes linked to the curriculum, coupled with ongoing assessments for learning and assessments of learning practices. With a career background in communications, media and digital, I am dedicated to continually adapting learning outcomes and teaching methods to meet the needs of an ever-changing technological landscape, to ensure relevancy for my students, and to develop curious, creative thinkers.

I have experience working with both native and non-native English speakers in developing their writing, comprehension, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Developing trust with students is key to students gaining confidence and proficiency in English and Drama. I first undertake an initial review of areas of strength and weakness, along with desired outcomes from tutoring, in order to design an individualised program for each student. Ongoing informal assessment will take place during each session and any concerns will be raised early. My aim is to instil a love of learning while striving for the best results for each individual student. I work with students from years 4 to 12.
