About Ricardo
Hello there! I am Ricardo Alejandro Barrera Benitez. I come from a big Venezuelan family with enough cousins to fit a small football stadium. As a result, I can work well with all sorts of people, regardless of their background, gender identity or social comfort. The RAF CCF taught me professionalism, meaning while I like to keep my lessons light and engaging, I understand how to be respectful to all always, even when it comes to heavy topics or strenuous circumstances. I love opportunities; having gone on hikes, sports trips, camps, competitions and work experiences in all sorts of activities from skiing to flying. The breadth of unique and powerful people I've met always inspires me, and I work to one day make that kind of impression on everyone I meet. I have always been studious, keeping my grades at A until my unconditional offer to Strathclyde University. On top of my studies, my interests have pushed me to learn so much more, from simply binging science videos to picking up a camera for photography. On a more personal note, I love a good read, have spent far too many hours on DOOM for it to be reasonable and am a hardcore ambivert who's looking forward to meeting you!

When dealing with the SQA, it can be easy to lose yourself in strict word choice and standardised definitions. To combat this, I prioritise students' understanding of the concept for whatever topic we are discussing, testing them by playing around with the idea and using unique and memorable explanations to ensure they never forget. Once they feel confident, and we've breezed through some examples; I relate this to the SQA's marking scheme. Explaining what words the SQA likes to see and how they want it formatted; securing marks for the student in all tests and exams. Each lesson will be 60-90 minutes long, with lessons open to anyone at National 5 or Higher level. My experience comes from my years as a cadet of the RAF CCF, teaching cadets all the introductory courses on history, fieldwork, airmanship, plane identification etc. eventually earning me a Method of Instruction certification.
