About Daniella
When I was 9 years old, I would come home from school every day and teach an imaginary classroom of students, from a whiteboard that I begged my mom to buy for my "lessons". Since then, I have been driven to become an educator. I am not interested in tutoring just because of money or obligation; I'm interested because education has been my biggest passion since I was a little kid. I want to help people learn, and make it an enjoyable experience. I have experience working with both high school students and elementary students through summer camps and volunteer experience. I learn about effective education every day in my classes, and get to apply the methods I learn through required field experience. Bottom line- I want to use my experience to help you! Through my experience and passion for education, I want to help you thrive as much as possible, and I want to form a good relationship so we can work together to help you meet your specific needs.

FOR K-5 STUDENTS: - I use a phonics-based approach to reading, scientifically backed up to be the most effective instruction of reading. - I will first explain the skill we are focusing on. (For example, for a first grade student learning short vowel sounds, we will first understand the premise that the letters we see on pages are actually representative of sounds that we make when we speak.) -Then, we will work on that skill together. (For example, for the student above we would sound out all of the different short vowel sounds and use hand motions to help memorize them - like for "o" we can make an octopus by wiggling our fingers- octopus starts with a short o sound so when students recall what sound a short o makes they can remember the octopus hand motion. We will practice recalling each short vowel sound until we can do it effortlessly.) -Then, the student can practice this skill independently to work on mastery. (For example, I will have the student tell me each short vowel sound, and have them read aloud common words containing the short vowel sound using our prior knowledge of consonant sounds and blending different phoneme sounds together. If they are struggling, visual representations like colored squares of paper, can be used to represent different sounds and we can push them together to make a word.) FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: -We will go over the specific format and points that colleges are looking for in application essays, or that AP graders are looking for in AP essay responses. -We will brainstorm different ideas we could use to fulfill these points. For college essays, we can draw upon life experiences, knowledge about the university, etc. For AP essays, we can draw from recurring themes in literature and assigned passages, personal experiences, historical examples, global events, etc. -We will then go over how we can make our writing stand out. For college essays, this can be through unique anecdotes, funky writing style, compelling points, etc. For AP essays, we can focus on distinguished writing skills, strong organizational aspects, smooth flow and transitions, etc. -We will create outlines and drafts for our writing. For college essays, we can access essays of people who got into the schools for inspiration, and for AP essays we can look at past high-scoring responses for inspiration. We will create an outline and then work on drafting writing. For AP essays, we will first focus on creating high-quality writing including all of the desired elements, then we will work on writing under time restraints and pressure.
