About Shonda

I've lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for the past 22 years, and am originally from South Jersey and S. Philadelphia. Since retiring from running my own childcare & preschool in-person programs, I've been enjoying spending quality time with family, doing crossword puzzles, baking each week, and volunteering. :)

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Millersville University, along with additional Post Baccalaureate studies in Early Childhood Education. I maintain current Child Abuse, Criminal, and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances. My professional work experience combines Early Childhood Education (infant- 12 years old), Business Management, Early Learning Leadership, and substitute teaching for K- 12th grades throughout Central PA School Districts.

I'm passionate about supporting families, and have devoted my life to advocating for children and youth, through education & care.

My tutoring sessions are 30 minutes each, and are structured to strengthen students’ understanding of specific topics and academic skills. My goal is to help every student build confidence, feel more comfortable with the material, and develop the skills needed for academic success and work independence.

During each session, students are encouraged to actively engage with the lesson, practice new skills with my guidance, and reinforce their learning through at-home practice independently, as well as with a parent or guardian for support if needed. I believe consistent practice builds confidence, strengthens understanding, and can lead to improved test performance and greater participation in the classroom.

Before developing individualized lessons, I take time to assess each student’s strengths, current academic abilities, and areas where additional support may be beneficial. This allows me to create a personalized, well-rounded tutoring experience that meets each student where they are and supports their individual learning needs.

Lessons are typically facilitated firstly with me teaching, and then demonstrating step by step how to complete a skill, or explaining what the concepts of a topic are. I conclude the lesson with repetition of steps, and concepts, with your student demonstrating their better understanding of the material, and lastly by answering questions.
Students are to attend each session with a positive attitude towards the lesson, with paper, writing tools, and any additional materials on hand if mentioned by me prior to session starting.

My goal is to provide a positive, supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to grow, celebrate their progress, and develop a strong foundation for continued academic success.

Details

Each session is 30 minutes in length, and billed for the month prior to start. Families secure/commit to at least a minimum of 4-5 sessions per month.

Ex): Ongoing Tuesday evening sessions from 6:00pm- 6:30pm.
Services/Billing- (4) Tuesday sessions in November to be paid prior to start of 1st of 4 sessions.

*If session is held online it would be $25 per 30-min. session, and billed $100 monthly for (4) total sessions.
If the month has (5) Tuesdays, then that month billing will be $125 due for those (5) weekly Tuesday sessions.
