About Purnima

Hi, my name is Purnima and I have been a teacher for nearly 30 years. I started off training and working in London and thoroughly enjoyed teaching literacy and numeracy skills to primary aged children. Many of them had reading difficulties which encouraged me to learn more about neuro-diversity and pupils with dyslexia. I trained further in teaching pupils with dyslexia and found my passion for teaching. It has been a real reward and joy teaching pupils in England and around the world. I have also taught in International schools in Switzerland, Portugal and China. I love travelling and learning about new cultures around the world. I believe that it makes you a better, more understanding, empathetic and knowledgeable person which I can bring into my teaching. I also love spending time with my family, cooking and going out in London to the museums, theatre, and shopping !

About the lesson

I am a fully qualified teacher for 29 years with a full breadth of experience across all ages. I specialised in teaching pupils with dyslexia and other specific learning / neurodiverse challenges. My focus is to teach literacy skills to pupils from 5 years old to GCSE English. I also teach pupils aged 5 to 11 years old who require maths.
I have an in-depth understanding of the curriculum and how to adapt it to fully meet the needs of my students to achieve outstanding results.
I differentiate the lessons and resources to meet the student’s learning styles, interests, and abilities so they can make good developments every lesson. My use of a great range of resources including educational apps, new worldwide topics, information technology is up to date and relevant to the students today. It is important to keep in line with the newest teaching methodologies, research and training so I regularly attend courses and I am a member of the British Dyslexia Association and PATOSS.
I believe in expert use of questioning which probes understanding as well as challenging and imaginative tasks which will engage students and support the learning process. Building rapport and listening to the student with positive feedback also motivates my students to reach their best potential.
