About Deepraj
As an A-level student who recently achieved A/A* in 4 A levels and the exciting milestone of starting dental school this September, I’m eager to take on a new challenge: becoming a tutor. My journey to dental school was fuelled by dedication, hard work, and a genuine passion for learning. Now, as I embark on my path to becoming a dentist, I believe that tutoring is a natural extension of my commitment to helping others and giving back to my local community. As an aspiring dentist, effective communication is crucial. Being able to explain treatment plans, procedures, and dental health information in a clear and empathetic manner is vital for patient care. Tutoring helps me practice these communication skills, as I learn to adapt my explanations to suit different learning styles and needs. Patience and empathy are key qualities in dentistry, where every patient has unique concerns and comfort levels. By tutoring, I can develop these qualities by working with students who may struggle with certain topics, fostering a supportive environment that encourages learning and growth. As a tutor, I will be taking on a leadership role, guiding students through challenging material and helping them build confidence in their abilities. This experience will be invaluable in my future career, where I will need to lead a dental team and make important decisions about patient care. Tutoring is more than just a way to help others; it’s a stepping stone in my journey to becoming a compassionate and knowledgeable dentist. I’d typically tutor a small class of year 11 GCSE students for 50-55 minutes twice a week during my free periods, as an A level student. I emphasise an interactive and adaptable learning approach. I tailor lessons to the student’s needs, learning style, and pace. I focus on making lessons interactive, using a combination of explanations, examples, and questions to encourage critical thinking. My goal is to help students understand underlying concepts, not just memorise facts. I often use real-world examples, analogies, and practical applications to make abstract concepts more relatable. Id like to say I utilise a “scaffolding approach” to teach. So, I start with simpler concepts and gradually progress to more complex topics. This method ensures that students build a strong foundation before tackling advanced content. I always provide constructive feedback and regularly assess progress through quizzes, practice exercises, and discussions to identify areas for improvement and reinforce learning.
