About William
Throughout secondary and college, I was privileged to have teachers with genuine enthusiasm for the subject, who pushed me and helped me see the true beauty in the field. I achieved a grade 9 at GCSE. I carried this mentality to my other subjects at A-Level, achieving 4 A*s in my courses, including Maths and Further Maths.
The University of Edinburgh, due to my grades and score on the entrance exam, allowed me to skip the first year. In my second year, I achieved A grades in all 8 courses, 7 of which were A1 (>90%), and was awarded the 'William and Isabella Dick Prize' for my exceptional performance. Subsequently, in my third year, I achieved an A1 in all 7 of my graded courses, this time earning me the 'Arthur Erdélyi Prize'.
I am currently working toward an integrated Master of Mathematics at Edinburgh. However, by recommendation of a professor impressed by my work, I plan to apply to Cambridge to study for a MASt in Pure Mathematics.
My first experience tutoring was being part of a program at my college. My tutee was on track to a grade 3. He felt stuck and believed he could never understand the material. However, after a few months of working together, his confidence and proficiency improved dramatically, leading him to earn a grade 7 distinction, surprising himself and his teacher.
I found the experience of seeing my tutee reach his academic goals extremely rewarding and decided to pursue tutoring professionally.

In my lessons, I aim to provide insight and techniques that I have learnt from my years of studying Mathematics. I understand what is required to score highly in Maths examinations at all levels of study. In addition, I recognise that every student has their optimal way of learning. I consider this when tailoring sessions to their individual learning style. For difficult problems, I can break questions down into manageable steps and then guide my tutee through at such a rate to ensure that they can keep pace and be actively engaged.
