About Jake
Hey! My name is Jake and I a 4th year Data Science PhD student at Imperial College. My research is focussed around climate change and wildfire modelling from a data science perspective. I have experience teaching students from primary school through to Master's and MBA level, so I am able to deal with a range of abilities. I have excellent communication skills and can relate to a wide range of people and learning styles. I believe the key to teaching at any level is explaining the topic in the simplest way possible (e.g. imagining a simple real world scenario) and building understanding from there.
Drop me a message and let's see if we are a good fit for each other :)
SIDE NOTE: I absolutely HATED maths at school, and was awful at it. My teacher laughed at me when I told her I wanted to take Maths A level. Thankfully, my A level teacher was incredible - and had a contagious enthusiasm for maths - which I caught. I ended up doing a maths degree and I am now a data scientist using high level maths and computer science techniques to solve cutting edge climate change problems on a daily basis. I have lectured and presented at conferences across the world and I absolutely love what I do (now I'm the one laughing).
Nobody is bad at maths, they just don't have a good teacher who believes in them. I was lucky enough to find one, and I believe as a tutor it is essential to inspire people the way I was inspired.

I am available to tutor courses in Computer Science/Programming, Maths and Sciences, from basic/beginner to A level/equivalent. We can have an initial meeting to look over your course and specify areas which you are struggling with, and then I will structure the lessons based around these key topics. Typical length of a lesson will be around an hour but can be negotiated based on the students needs.
