About Ava
My name is Ava Yoon, and I am currently a student at the University of Arizona, studying Biology with a minor in business. I graduated high school from a charter school and am currently in my third year of college. I am passionate about helping students advance their English skills as well as their comfort level. I love interacting with people and teaching. I am very dependable and very committed to creating a strong and positive learning environment.

I approach teaching based on the student's specific needs. I consider the student's goals, literacy level, and preferred learning styles. I use conversation practice and reading and writing exercises to improve a student's accuracy in English. I also am not question-and-answer focused, but more so focused on the process that it takes to reach the right conclusion. For the first lesson with me, I typically go over a bit of review material based on the student's academic level and analyze where the student is at. I also ask the student what their goals are and where they hope to improve. A typical session from then on would include focused practice on a specific skill and then a review of what was learned at the end of the session. I am different from other tutors because I understand that not every student learns the same way. I also understand that a tutor is meant for a student's specific needs, whether that means going at a faster or slower pace or putting more focus on a specific topic. I am passionate about my students' learning and always want them to understand something better than they did before. I am open to working with students from kindergarten to 12th grade. I can help students looking to learn new things like reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and conversation skills, as well as improve their skills in these subjects.
