As someone who has gone through elementary, middle, and high school- I know how it feel to need that extra help- even know in college I need it occasionally. But, I think this helps me understand the students I work with by allowing them to know I know exactly how they feel. My teaching method allows student to tell me where they struggle and where they are lost, and working step by step to accomplish the goals we would like to reach.
