About Abby
Hi there! Thanks for checking out my page :) My name is Abby -- I'm a current English Language Learning teacher in a boarding middle school in New England. I'm well-versed in the intricacies of the English language, and also in the best and most respected evidence-based approaches to teaching the language. I make learning English fun, specifically centering lessons around my students' interests. I graduated from Smith College with degrees in Spanish and Anthropology -- I love talking about people and talking to people! In my free time, I love reading books, spending time with friends, and watching Formula 1.

When teaching reading and speaking to English Language Learners, I'm well-versed in evidence-based approaches to teaching reading and writing, including use of the DIBELS, UFLI phonics, and Ellii grammar platforms to tailor lessons specifically to each students' individual needs. I'm comfortable and confident teaching to students from 5th grade up to the college level. In our lessons, we'll learn phonics -- where physically the sounds of the English language come from -- as to minimize accented speech, which ultimately increases reading and writing ability. We'll also learn grammar mechanics, building an understanding of how the English language works. Lessons are engaging with content tailored to each person, and along the way we'll have so much fun!
