About Ryan
My name is Ryan Greenwood. I am currently a math teacher at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community Schools, teaching middle and high school math. Before my current job, I spent 7 years in the Waterloo School District also teaching math. I live in Waterloo with my wife and son. We are avid sports fans and enjoy spending time together, going to the park and listening to live music. I am passionate about helping people with math. As I tell my students, most people either love or HATE math based off of their experience. My job is to help you learn math by breaking it down and helping you actually understand. I hope that while we are working together you will understand and maybe even like math. Co-workers would say I am good at connecting with and getting to know my students and pushing and holding them to high standards. I have been on leadership teams, district math committees and regularly go to conferences around bettering myself as a teacher and a student of math. I hope we can work together and help you learn and enjoy math!

As a tutor, my approach is all about making learning engaging, clear, and fun. I try to break things down into bite-sized, digestible pieces so you don’t feel overwhelmed, and I always aim to explain things in a way that fits you and how you learn best. Here's how I like to approach it:
1. Clear, Simple Explanations
I take complex ideas and make them simpler by using examples and analogies. For instance, if you're learning about algebra, I might compare it to balancing a scale, where you need to keep both sides equal.
2. Interactive Learning
I like to make sure we’re actively involved in the learning process. This means asking questions, doing practice problems, or even breaking down concepts together. I believe actively engaging with the material makes it stick better.
3. Personalization
I’ll ask you what parts of the subject you find tricky or what kind of examples you’d like. If you learn better with visuals, I’ll try to create diagrams or even generate images to help explain things. If you prefer step-by-step breakdowns, I’ll give you just that.
4. Patience & Encouragement
I understand that everyone has their own pace, and sometimes it can take a little while to get a concept. I’m here to help guide you without rushing, and I celebrate your progress no matter how big or small.
5. Practical Applications
Whenever possible, I try to relate what we’re learning to real-world situations. If you’re learning about history, I might connect it to a current event or something that interests you. For math, I might show how it's used in video games or sports.
6. Feedback Loop
I encourage you to ask questions at any time and give me feedback if something doesn't make sense. I’m always happy to adjust or explain things differently.
