About Yerin
During my 10 month gap between high school and and university, I picked up tutoring starting from guiding my brother through his IGCSE exams and his first year of IB which slowly expanded to teaching seven students across a range of subjects. With all the students being around the same age as my brother, I found it easier to navigate my way through teaching younger students. Additionally, putting myself in their shoes as one who also had trouble understanding content taught in school at times enabled me to gain a sense of accomplishment after each lesson. On top of this, seeing my students satisfied with their improved grades were my two main sources of motivation for tutoring. As a first year university student, I hope to achieve greater satisfaction in my work and also help retain my hard-earned knowledge from high school through teaching.

I am current 1st year Medical Student at King’s College London who took the November 2022 IB Paper. During the 10 month break between my graduation and starting university, I decided to pick up tutoring as my main method of not only retaining my knowledge but also keeping myself busy. Although I have conducted lessons both online and in-person across a variety of subjects including Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry and TOK, I feel getting the fundamentals of each topic down for each topic, followed by branching out into the different concepts, applications and question types is crucial when teaching any subject. This enables students to fully understand and internalise the content themselves in order for the information to be retained longer and be utilised to answer longer and more detailed questions. Additionally, considering that the majority of the final marks are based on the papers, I also find it vital to drill into each student the different types of questions that come out and how to answer them in a timely manner whilst getting all the key points down. Having solved numerous past papers myself during my IB and GCSE experience and with my old students through teaching, I am confident in ensuring my students obtain both conceptual knowledge but also ways they can master solving the papers and various question types for the final papers or upcoming exams. Apart from the academic aspect of classes, I also make sure to build a personal relationship with each individual student to ensure the student whilst simultaneously being able to personalise each lesson to their respective preferred learning styles.
