Hi! I’m Erika, a patient tutor who specializes in mathematics, from arithmetic up to calculus, including precalculus, trigonometry, and core algebra. My goal is not just to help you solve problems, but to help you truly understand why the math works and how it connects to the bigger picture.
My Teaching Method and Techniques:
I focus on two main pillars:
-Understanding the logic behind math
Instead of just memorizing formulas, I explain the ideas behind them.
-Repetition with purpose
I use carefully chosen exercises that help you practice key ideas until they become automatic.
I also spend time identifying what’s lacking in your understanding. Once I see exactly where the gaps are, I focus on those areas while still keeping the broader context in mind, so you don’t lose the connection between different topics.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
Here’s how a typical lesson might look:
-Quick check-in (5–10 minutes)
We briefly discuss what you’ve already studied, what you find difficult, and what you’d like to focus on today.
-Concept explanation (15–20 minutes)
I explain the core idea, often starting from simpler examples and building up to more complex ones. I use clear language, diagrams, and step-by-step reasoning.
-Guided practice (20–30 minutes)
You work through problems with my support. I ask questions, offer hints, and help you correct mistakes by reasoning together, rather than just giving the answer.
-Independent practice (15–20 minutes)
You try similar problems on your own, so you can build confidence and see for yourself what you’ve mastered.
-Wrap-up and reflection (5–10 minutes)
We review what we covered, summarize what you now understand better, and plan what to focus on next time.
Depending on the topic and your level, I adjust the length and focus of each part.
What Sets Me Apart:
-Kind and understanding approach
I know math can be intimidating. I never rush you, and I create a calm, supportive environment where it’s okay to make mistakes and ask questions.
-Focus on gaps, not just speed
I pay close attention to misunderstandings and weak foundations. Instead of moving on too quickly, I make sure we fix the root issues.
My lessons are designed for:
-High school students or younger
Strengthening foundations in arithmetic, algebra, and trigonometry, preparing for exams, and building confidence in math.
-Undergraduate students
Supporting courses in precalculus, calculus I–II, and related math modules. I help with understanding concepts, solving problems, and preparing for exams or assignments.
-Anyone who wants to rebuild or refresh their math skills
Whether you’re returning to study after a long time or simply want to improve your logical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
I adapt my explanations to your level, background, and learning style, and I’m happy to coordinate with your school or university syllabus if needed.
