About Josh
Hello! My name is Josh and I’m currently a college undergraduate student at the State College of Florida. Here are some of my credentials as a tutor.
For starters I am 17, so I’m a lot more familiar than older tutors with the current atmospheres of schools. I have also very recently taken high school level courses, so the information is fresh on my mind.
I am practically fluent in high school algebra with the scores to back it up. I very easily grasp math concepts and have been commended for my ability to simplify and explain said concepts.
Writing has also always been a strong suit of mine. In fact, I have won several essay contests throughout my life, including Florida’s largest essay contest, which accepts thousands of applicants every year. Basically, I know what it takes to write an outstanding essay.

The two areas I cover as a tutor include high school level algebra and essay writing.
As for my math lessons, I first will work with you to find what areas you are struggling with. Once identified, we will revisit and go over the topic(s) aforementioned to reestablish an understanding. We will then use practice problems until it is clear that you understand the material. A big part of algebra is memorization. Whether this be formulas or processes, many students struggle with remembering everything. I will assist you with easier ways to remember the different concepts in order to prepare for tests.
My writing lessons will take on a different format, as unlike math, there is no set and stone answer. As a writing tutor, I will assist you with brainstorming topics, identifying your thesis and supporting evidence, the structure of your essay, improving your word-choice to elevate your essay, and how to research and use said research effectively in your writing. Think of me as your peer-editor in a way, providing feedback to improve the effectiveness of your writing while also assisting you when you hit a roadblock or don’t know what to do next. The goal is to not only perfect the essay you’re working on, but also provide you with ways to make writing seamless for you in the future.
