About Emelda
I am a current college student majoring in Biology. I soon realized how important the basic writing skills are in college and how writing-intensive classes can actually be. But I also know that English is not everyone's first language and that not everyone has the same tools growing up to help them sharpen their skills. As a first-generation student, it was something I had to learn on my own. Quickly with learning strategies and stepping out of my comfort zone, I graduated high school as an AP literature student and was also a valued member of the English National Honor Society. English skills are required not only in the classroom setting but beyond.

As a first-generation student, I understand how important not only English speaking, reading, and writing skills are, but also presentation skills. A typical lesson plan will start with conversing with the student on what they are learning in school so that the lesson can help hone that very same skill. The class will also be conversation-based in order to help the students get out of their comfort zones. There will be an extremely simple, 5-question multiple-choice quiz every week in order to track the student's growth.
