About Lorenzo
I am a PhD student and trained teaching assistant in Medical Science at the University of Cambridge. I have achieved distinction grades in Master's degrees in Epidemiology (MPhil, University of Cambridge) and Nutrition (MSc, University of Leeds), and a first class BSc degree in Food Science and Nutrition. I have received awards for the highest overall marks in my BSc and MSc degrees. Through my educational background, I have a solid understanding of sciences and mathematics to support GCSE and A-Level students, and particular expertise in the fields of nutrition, food science and epidemiology for degree-level tutoring. I also have considerable experience in writing applications and personal statements for university and CVs for other academic-related opportunities. I am happy to guide students through this daunting process. Previous applications I have provided feedback before have been successful in securing highly competitive postgraduate funding opportunities and admission to postgraduate degree courses. I pride myself on being friendly, understanding and patient. I expect students to fully engage during their tutoring to ensure they are getting as much out of each session as possible.

Personal statements and university entrance I can independently review personal statements and entrance essays etc. and provide detailed and constructive feedback for improvement. A single task will typically be billed as between 1-2 sessions. Academic subject tutoring My fundamental goal is to help students to understand and apply their course content, rather than just memorise it. This is a critical skill required for A-level and degree-level study. I will work with my students to break down complex scientific topics and communicate them in a more understandable way. My approach is not "one size fits all". Sessions will be tailored to the needs of the individual student, taking into consideration their learning style as well as upcoming assignments, tests and exam preparation. My approach also stresses the importance of exam technique, revision, and time management - skills that are too frequently overlooked. Lessons will be typically 1-1.5 hours. Resources may include worksheets with exam-style questions and one-to-one teaching to supplement school-based teaching in specific topics, which can be selected by the student.
