About Catherine
I am a current college student at Middlebury College who is looking to tutor predominantly elementary and middle school students in english and math.
In high school, I had a position as a tutor at the writing center at my school. I helped students with all aspects of their writing and work. I had one on one meetings with the students and went over parts of their essays or papers that they were unsure about or wanted a second look at. We went over grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and much more. This experience allowed me to understand how to effectively communicate with the individual I am tutoring and how to challenge them to think for themselves. It was a very satisfying experience when the student approached me later on and explained that they got a good grade on the essay or assignment we worked on together!
My work experience is predominately with childcare and working with children. This past summer I worked for a hockey camp in my area. At this job, I coached children on all aspects of their hockey game along with organizing drills, fostering a supportive environment, and providing clear communication with parents, other coaches, and my boss. This experience allowed me to learn to communicate and collaborate with people of all ages. Prior jobs include working as a camp counselor for three years at an all-day sports camp and working as a summer camp counselor at a country club. These jobs taught me key organization skills and how to effectively communication with camp leaders, parents, and children.
Based on my previous experience as both a tutor and a camp counselor, I am confident that I would make a great tutor for your students.

My main objective while teaching is to create an environment where the student feels supportive and confident that he or she can reach their goals. Through my experience working with children, I have learned to push them to accomplish something but also provide support along the way. I am confident that my approach to tutoring will challenge the students while pushing them to reach their goals.
