Jakob is a respected member of our tutor community. He is highly recommended for his commitment and the quality of his lessons. An excellent choice to progress with confidence.
About Jakob
I am hard-working, dedicated, and attentive tutor with a strong academic record. I achieved the Top Academic Scholarship on entry from Abingdon School and the Top Academic Prize on leaving. At GCSE, I obtained nine 9s and 2 A*s, and at A-Level I obtained 5 A*s (in Maths, Further Maths, Latin, Classical Greek, French). I am currently in my second year at New College Oxford reading Classics. I achieved a first in my second year exams, placing 3/105. For this achievement I was awarded a scholarship and the Harold Sunderland prize. I genuinely love my subject and would be grateful for any opportunity to teach others about it.

I am keen to help tutees make progress, achieve their goals, and, above all, discover a love for their subject. I believe that my tutorials are fun, engaging, and academically stretching. I am more than happy to tailor my teaching approach to the specific needs of tutees. For example, I can give Oxbridge-style tutorials, mock interviews, or standard teaching classes. I can also give more general Oxbridge application advice, personal statement feedback, and 13+ scholarship classes. I will teach online (Zoom, Google Meet, Skype etc.) or am willing to travel up to 7 miles.

Jakob is a classics mastermind who is full of passion and bravado for his subject. Moreover, he is a kind and patient teacher who is able to reach any student. He is punctual and has a fine attention to detail. You cannot go wrong choosing Jakob as a tutor.
Jakob is a knowledgable and reliable tutor, with a wide variety of teaching methods as well as being highly enthusiastic about his subject.
If you want to learn about ancient languages and civilisations in an enlightening and enjoyable way, look no further than Jakob. Jakob has an uncanny ability to explain complex material in an engaging manner. As a tutor, he is committed to broadening the intellectual hinterland of all of his students. His academic rigour, excellent communication skills and warm demeanour ensure that his students receive a first-class pedagogical experience.
It goes without saying from Jakob’s results that academically, he would be an excellent tutor. From being my peer at New College, he has shown that he is also a kind and thoughtful individual who I have no doubt would be reassuring to anyone who needs some extra help! He is extremely punctual and is one of the only people who I never have to wait around for!! Jakob is also a really fun person to be around so I’m sure that he’d make his lessons enjoyable at the same time as being informative. He rose to the challenge of undertaking an Oxford classics degree excellently, so with that great level of experience I’m sure he’d be a wonderful tutor, who I recommend unreservedly.
As a peer of Jakob’s (in being a fellow classics student), I can say that he possesses a constant laser-like command of both grammatical accuracy and sense of idiom. This is especially apparent in Greek-into-English translation, when he often leaves us in the dust, making us look positively sloppy in comparison! Not only is he most proficient at the languages themselves, he also has a striking breadth of reading, which he draws on to put the rest of us to shame on the literary front too! It is also hard to miss the fact that he is patient, eloquent in explaining concepts and organised in the extreme (on top of being an all-around very pleasant human being!). As disheartening as it may be to reside in his shadow, I can think of no-one better to be a tutor! I am by no means exaggerating when I say that my endorsement for him was a foregone conclusion.
