About Sean
My name is Sean and I’m excited to get to know you and help you achieve your goals! I teach violin for all ages and all skill levels, although I feel my teaching style and philosophy shines particularly when I work with intermediate and advanced students. I teach classical violin as well as Irish traditional music. In the past year, I’ve been a finalist for an orchestral job (Buffalo Philharmonic) and I’ve soloed with the National Repertory Orchestra. I also frequently sub with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. Personal accolades aside, teaching truly is a passion of mine and nothing makes me happier than helping someone navigate a tricky stage of their musical development and allowing them to realize their fullest potential. One of the main reasons I feel I’m an effective teacher is because I don’t teach all of my students in the exact same way. There have been many times in my life when I’ve met people who have worked with the same teachers I have. When we end up discussing our lessons with this teacher, we find out that the teacher has said similar if not identical things to each of us. I call this cookie cutter teaching, and it couldn’t be any more opposed to my personal teaching philosophy. Instead, I adjust and tailor my teaching style based on many factors including level (obviously), interest, and what the student is looking to get out of the experience. I choose to put my energy into creating lesson plans that help you reach your personal goals, as opposed to certain teachers who just create goals for their students without checking in with them. Point being, these lessons are about you not me.
