About Penny
I hold a first class Masters of Chemistry degree from Durham University, and have just graduated with a second Masters of Science (by research) in Synthetic Chemistry. My strength lies in organic chemistry and spectroscopy such as NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) and IR (Infrared). I have had experience teaching first year undergraduate students in university teaching labs part-time for two years, as well as tutoring GCSE and A-level students in my spare time. Previous students have given very positive feedback, focusing on my ability to break down complex problems into simpler ideas. I can provide bespoke revision help, exam tips, or introduce new topics depending on what it is the students wish to focus on, in Chemistry up to A-level standard and Maths up to GCSE standard. My A-level results were A* (96%) in Chemistry, A* (100%) in Maths and A (89%) in Physics.

My lessons are very flexible and can be tailored to the students' needs. I would ask students to tell me what they want to work on at least a day before the lesson so I could plan accordingly. I like beginning my lessons by gaining an understanding of what students have learnt in school in the past week and how much they have understood the content. When consolidating their knowledge, I believe students respond much better if I relate back to what they have done at school. If I am teaching new content, I always try to build it up from existing knowledge so that the student is eased into the new topic.

Perfect! Penny has excellent knowledge and is able to explain things very well. I used to struggle a lot with A-Level Chemistry. Penny was able to help build my confidence and helped me realise that i already knew more than I thought, but I needed help linking concepts together and building exam techniques. When i started lessons with Penny I had just gotten a C in my mock exam. By the end of my A-levels, I had received an A in Chemistry.
