About Mark
2nd year T-Level laboratory science student (predicted distinction) with research experience across academic, healthcare, and industry-focused environments.
I have built a strong foundation in cell culture (mammalian & microbial), protein biochemistry, molecular engineering, and a broad range of analytical and biochemical techniques. At UCL, I worked on multiple research projects, including analysing the mechanism of action of paclitaxel, and supporting the upstream development of prototype vaccines such as a bivalent dengue virus vaccine and a glycoconjugate Francisella tularensis vaccine. I also gained experience scripting and optimising automated laboratory workflows for a Tecan Freedom EVO liquid-handling platform.
Alongside my studies, I work as an Assistant Laboratory Technician at North Hertfordshire College, where I support laboratory operations through equipment calibration (pipettes, top-pan and analytical balances), PAT checks, stock rotation (LIFO), inventory management, preparation of working reagents, and ensuring SOP and MSDS compliance. My work adheres to key safety frameworks including HSAWA, MHSAWR, PPER, RIDDOR, COSHH, and PUWER.
I also work part-time as Pharmacy Support Staff at Stevenage Pharmacy, assisting with stock checks (LIFO), customer support, administrative tasks, and handling sensitive information such as PCRs (Patient Care records), CDRs (Controlled Drugs records), finance reports, and national surveillance documentation (NHS influenza & SARS-CoV-2 reports from September-December 2025). I operate in full compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and ALCOA++ standards.
Beyond the laboratory, I continue developing my scientific perspective through the GSK-led Leaders in STEM, PreMed: Future Doctors Course, and various other projects. Additionally, I actively attend talks hosted by UCL VaxHub, LifeArc, the Wellcome Sanger Institute, and Autolus.
Furthermore, I have contributed to global ecological research as a Citizen Scientist with Zooniverse, contributing 2000+ classifications to biodiversity projects in New Zealand, the Galápagos Islands, and North America. In total I’ve contributed across 10+ different projects and have 4000+ total classifications. I’ve also been involved in stellar projects such as mapping dark matter around galaxies & decoding neutrino patterns.
I am committed to advancing biomedical research, maintaining rigorous laboratory standards, and contributing to meaningful scientific outcomes.
