My teaching strategies typically include analogies, memory devices, models, story-telling, memorable examples and connections to real life, and humor. In science, I also try to encourage deeper thinking about a concept. My goal is always to help you avoid memorizing, and instead, learn deeply.
My typical lesson plan would be to break a concept down into small chunks that we tackle together one at a time, and try examples together, making sure we understand one chunk before we move on to the next. In math, I often give a list of 'steps' or 'rules' to follow. Often, when a student is not understanding, I will think of a different way to explain until we land on the right approach for you.
