About Heather
Hello! I absolutely love reading and helping to instill my passion for reading into students that I work with. Over my 15 year teaching career, I have seen students struggle with reading and how hard it was for them. Over 5 years ago, I began researching to find a solution to help students. That is when I began learning about the Science of Reading and how our brain actually learns how to read. I have heard often that English is extremely hard and confusing, but with the right approach and instruction that actually shows students they how and why, they can be successful. I have used this structed literacy approach, as well as comprehension instruction with countless students to help become successful readers, feel more confident with proven results.

Lessons are customized to each learner's individual needs using proven methods that have helped students increase their reading skills and test scores.
For students that need help with reading a typical lesson would include a multisensory, systematic approach that teaches students how to break the code of reading:
- review
- guided practice with an I do, you do, we do approach
- transfer of skills into reading
These lessons are great for students needing to improve their reading skills as well as ESL students.
For students that need help with reading comprehension or test prep, lessons would include:
- introduction of the text
- build background knowledge
- discussing comprehension questions and how to answer them
using key words/phrases and skimming the text to find the
answers
