About Klijah
I am a nationally certified NIC interpreter with a strong background in both professional interpreting and ASL education. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of interpreters and clients across various settings. This includes: educational, medical, video relay, community, and more. Each setting calls for a different approach, unique skills, and the ability to adapt quickly and ethically. I’ve learned that the key to success in this field is flexibility—and that’s something we develop through intentional mentoring and targeted tutoring. In addition to interpreting, I’ve taught ASL interpreting to high school students, college learners, and adult professionals in both in-person and virtual formats. My goal is to help students not only build technical skills, but also develop the confidence and critical thinking needed to navigate real-world interpreting situations. As a tutor, my approach is centered on creating a supportive and confidence-building environment for ASL interpreting students. I combine real-world interpreting experience with structured, skill-based lessons that focus on both receptive and expressive interpreting. Each session typically begins with a warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge, followed by targeted skill-building exercises, video or live interpreting practice, and feedback with guided reflection. I tailor each lesson to the student's level—whether you're just starting out in an ITP or preparing for certification exams like the NIC or EIPA. What sets me apart is my ability to break down complex interpreting concepts into clear, manageable steps, and my commitment to mentoring with encouragement and accountability. My lessons are great for college students, recent ITP graduates, or working interpreters looking to grow.
