Learning with Teacher Joy was a genuinely positive experience for me. What I liked most was that her classes felt fun and personal, and I never felt like I was back in school. She has such a bubbly personality that made every lesson lively and welcoming. She used real conversations and everyday examples, which made things much easier to understand and remember. She was always patient, encouraging, and willing to explain things whenever I didn’t understand. I learned a lot from Teacher Joy.

I had private Mandarin lessons with Joy for almost a year now. Among the 4 teachers I tried back then she was by far the best one. As cliché as it may sound, her name is the best keyword to describe her. She is a real joy to work with! No matter how tired I am after work, she always manages to motivate me to learn something new every lesson. Aside from being icredibly charismatic, easy going and encouraging, she excels at teaching in a very well structured and interactive way. During a typical lesson, we would spend a few minutes with small talk about our day or weekend - usually half in Mandarin and half in English. Then, we would recap some of the previously learnt words and expressios in a listening or translating exercise while looking at some slides that Joy always prepares. During these dialogs Joy would sometimes add new words and often add exciting anectodes that give me an insight into the Chinese culture. After that, if there is time and if we made good progress, she would add a whole new category of words (e.g. family, fruits, foods, daily activities etc.). Towards the end of the lesson we would train those new words with some back and forth translations from and to Chinese. After the lessons, Joy will always send me the slides. She keeps tracks of my vocabulary, too. Whenever I can not attend a class, she is always super flexible to reschedule or drop a lesson (without any fees).
