About Richard
Greetings, I've been teaching and tutoring for over ten years. I've taught as a full-time high school English teacher in Baltimore city for the past five years and remain certified to do so. Recently, I've gone back to focusing on tutoring with a specialty in Secondary English (grades 6-12) and SAT/ACT prep, having worked previously for reputable tutoring centers like C2 and Huntington Learning Center (where I taught across curriculums and grade levels). I believe teaching English is analogous to Math in many ways. We must begin with building blocks (grammar) and upon proficiency can appropriately scaffold our way to more comprehensive reading and writing tasks. In Math, we don't learn calculus before we learn basic arithmetic; why should English be any different?
