About Guy
I'm an expert 11+ / 13+ tutor with a strong track record of getting students into top schools like Eton, Westminster & St Paul's. I went to one of them myself so I know the kind of candidate these schools look for! My other specialism is coaching English as a Second Language students at all levels, as a qualified TEFL teacher. I structure lessons to keep them fun and engaging, especially for younger students and this always pays off with dramatically improved fluency and confidence in English - in one case reaching the finals of an international English public speaking competition. I also have broad experience teaching English Literature GCSE and A Level (across all exam boards) to native speakers, and my students all see significant increases in their grades. Outside of my tutoring I am a writer and performer which furnishes me with additional expertise to bring to classes. My approach is flexible to accommodate students’ needs, but it centres on inspiring enthusiasm, confidence and independent thinking, as together these transform results. After reviewing a student's past work and talking to them about their learning goals, I'll put together a plan tailored to those goals. We'll use course-specific materials as well as my broad personal supply of exercises and texts for those students seeking enrichment beyond a curriculum. I'm a lifelong literature nerd and I work to inspire my students with the same excitement, as hard work is always easiest when it's interesting. I do that through finding the texts that speak to them as well as equipping them with the tools to unpack texts they might have found inaccessible. I also keep a positive and friendly environment in the room to help students to tackle difficult areas without anxiety and go back to their schoolwork with greater confidence in themselves.
