About Gerard
I am a Cambridge philosophy graduate (BA, MPhil) and incoming PhD candidate with a passion for helping students master critical analysis and thought. As a titled "Scholar" of St John's College Cambridge, I bring the same rigour and clarity to GCSE English that I apply to my own research. I specialise in helping students move from basic plot summary and surface analysis to develop the sophisticated, high-level arguments required for top grades. My approach combines my 50+ hours of experience as a tutor, Logic tutor at Cambridge, and St John's Philosophical Society founder, ensuring that every lesson is intellectually stimulating, structured, and most importantly, tailored to the specific needs of the student.

My lessons focus on cultivating both the confidence and analytical skills students require to succeed, whether that be at GCSE, A-Level, or beyond. For each student, I personally construct a plan tailored to their level, designed to push their capabilities. Sessions are then focused on accomplishing achievable, yet aspirational, goals. I firmly believe that each person has a unique learning style, and so getting to know my students is my priority. Where some prefer visual aids, others prefer active participation. I adjust each of my sessions to the student, ensuring their engagement and intellectual growth.

I've known Gerard for over 10 years and I would consider him to be an extremely motivated individual who is able to turn tutoring into something enjoyable. During my Exams, even when he had to focus himself, he still made time to help support me with the subjects I was struggling on which allowed me to surpass my limits.
Gerard is an incredibly bright and knowledgeable tutor who really knows how to connect with his students. He explains things clearly, stays patient, and makes learning feel much easier and more enjoyable. I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking for a supportive and effective tutor.
Gerard is someone that I consider to be a lifelong teacher to me. Through my many interactions with him it is clear how far he develops his own interests to drive an infectious passion grounded in a well read and thoughtful foundation of knowledge. This not only places him in an exceptional position to explain concepts effectively and his own analysis on any subject matter, but presents the opportunity to explore subjects to greater depth through discussion alongside him.
Me and Gerard studied at the same college, he is particularly adept at translating complex ideas into simplified, understandable, digestable content. He works hard to make sure you understand a concept and tries to find the best way to communicate with you. Verified through many library study sessions.
Gerard is organised and adaptable, able to use students’ strengths to tailor the curriculum to their needs and help them reach their full potential. He is also able to communicate information in a clear and concise manner. He is extremely knowledgeable and able to learn and comprehend a range of topics, allowing him to explain them clearly to others. Finally, he is highly able to comfortably help students advance through their curriculum, ensuring clear understanding and attainment of personal goals.
